The Golden State Warriors need someone to step up at center

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to Step Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 2 February 2012 at 5:16 pm

With Kwame Brown likely done for the season due to injury, the Warriors need someone to step up at center. They want that guy to be 25-year old Andris Biedrins. Biedrins has played in 16 games (all starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 17.0 minutes, 3.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Biedrins is scared to go to the basket offensively as he is only 1 for 5 (20%) shooting from the free throw line this year, showing his utter lack of aggressiveness on the offensive side of the basketball court. 24-year old Ekpe Udoh isn’t playing much better so far this year. Udoh has played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 17.8 minutes, 4.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. The Warriors are reluctant to give 20-year old rookie Jeremy Tyler a shot at legit P.T. right now. He has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 4.0 minutes, 1.4 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Recently signed 30-year old Earl Barron might be likely to see more P.T. in the near future if Biedrins and Udoh continue to be unimpressive. Barron has played in 1 game for the Warriors, working 6 minutes in which he had 2 points and 1 rebound. Center has been a black hole for the Warriors so far this year.

The Golden State Warriors lose Kwame Brown for the next three months

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to Step Up, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Thursday 12 January 2012 at 4:21 pm

The Warriors will be without 29-year old center Kwame Brown at least the next three months due to torn pectoral muscles. He has played in 9 games (3 starts) for the Warriors this year and he is averaging 20.8 minutes, 6.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. 25-year old Andris Biedrins will get his starting job back. He has played in 6 games (all starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 13.8 minutes, 3.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. The Warriors need Biedrins to get more physical around the basket as he has only attempted two free throws this year, missing both of them. 24-year old Ekpe Udoh will likely also see a bump in minutes for the Warriors going forward. Udoh has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 16.1 minutes, 4.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. The Warriors have high hopes for Udoh.

Dorell Wright is really stinking it up so far this year for the Golden State Warriors

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to Step Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 5 January 2012 at 6:16 pm

26-year old small forward Dorell Wright has really stunk it up for the Warriors so far this year. He has played in 6 games (all starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 31.5 minutes, 5.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Wright is only shooting 29.3% from the floor so far this year and he is shooting 14.3% (3 of 21) from three point range this year. He is in jeopardy of losing his starting job to Brandon Rush. This is shocking as Wright played so good last year for the Warriors. Wright played in 82 games (all starts) in his first year with the Warriors (last season) and he averaged 38.4 minutes, 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

The Golden State Warriors likely lost Andris Biedrins for the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Warriors News, Need to Step Up, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Sunday 20 March 2011 at 7:59 pm

The Golden State Warriors have likely lost 24-year old starting center Andris Biedrins for the rest of the season due to a high ankle sprain. Biedrins has played in 59 games (55 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he averaged 23.7 minutes, 5.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. 23-year old rookie Ekpe Udoh will likely take over as the Warriors’ starting center the rest of the year. He has played in 45 games (5 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 14.8 minutes, 3.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. 28-year old Louis Amundson will likely take over as the backup center the rest of the way for the Warriors. Amundson has played in 34 games (7 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 13.9 minutes, 3.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Udoh & Amundson will likely play well enough that the Warriors won’t miss Biedrins too much as he has been a huge disappointment this season.

The Golden State Warriors need Andris Biedrins to get tough

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to Step Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 14 January 2011 at 6:08 pm

24-year old center Andris Biedrins has played in 4 games so far this January and he is averaging 20.8 minutes, 2.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 blocked shot per game. He is only 4 of 6 shooting from the floor so far this month and he hasn’t shot any free throws. Biedrins needs to get mean because he’s a potential double/double every night he walks on the court when he is in the right frame of mind. Biedrins has played in 29 games (all starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 26.8 minutes, 6.0 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. He is shooting 54.1% from the floor but he is only 5 of 20 (25%) from the free throw line this year. It is just unacceptable that Biedrins gets to the line so few times despite his obvious physical ability. The Warriors need him to step up.
