The Golden State Warriors lose SG/SF Kelenna Azubuike for the year

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 8:12 pm

The Warriors have lost SG/SF Kelenna Azubuike for the season due to a torn left patellar tendon. Azubuike played in 9 games (7 starts) for the Warriors this season and he averaged 25.7 minutes, 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game. He also was shooting the ball great this season hitting 54.5% from the floor. This injury combined with the trade of Stephen Jackson to the Bobcats will hurt the offense of the Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors trade Stephen Jackson to the Bobcats

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 16 November 2009 at 7:14 pm

The Warriors have traded 31-year old SG/SF Stephen Jackson and 24-year old PG/SG Acie Law to the Bobcats for 33-year old SG Raja Bell and 28-year old forward Vladimir Radmanovic. Jackson played in 9 games (all starts) for the Warriors this season and he averaged 33.3 minutes, 16.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. No one doubts Jackson’s ability to play the game but he was just getting too hard to handle for the Warriors essentially forcing the team to trade him. At least the Warriors got a couple of decent players for him. The Warriors had to throw in Acie Law to get the deal done. Law played in 5 games (0 starts) for the Warriors this year and he averaged 13.2 minutes, 6.2 points, 0.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He has a decent little upside being a former first round pick of the Hawks but the Bobcats wanted him thrown into the deal if the Warriors really wanted to trade Jackson to them.

Raja Bell is known as a defensive player so it will be interesting to see where he can fit in for the Warriors. Bell played in 5 games (all starts) for the Bobcats this season and he averaged 31.4 minutes, 12.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He has now played in 603 games (383 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 28.0 minutes, 10.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Vladimir Radmanovic played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Bobcats this season and he averaged 16.6 minutes, 4.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He has now played in 556 games (184 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 24.0 minutes, 9.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. The Warriors will likely love Radmanovic’s shooting from three point range (38.4%) and that was likely a key to why they wanted him included in the deal.

UPDATE: Raja Bell will be an emergency player for the Warriors tonight and then he is going to undergo season ending wrist surgery because he doesn’t want to play for the Warriors. This makes this trade look really awful for the Warriors.

UPDATE II: Bell will delay the surgery on his wrist for a little while until the Warriors get back close to full strength or the pain bothers him too much.
