The Golden State Warriors trade two second round picks to the Nets

Blogged under General, The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 23 September 2009 at 11:37 am

The Warriors have sent two future second round picks to the Nets. In return the Nets won’t get a lottery protected first round pick from the Warriors until the 2012 season instead of next year’s draft. The Warriors must like the look of next year’s NBA Draft to make a move like this one.

The Golden State Warriors look solid at point guard

23-year old Monta Ellis will go into the season as the starting point guard for the Warriors. Ellis played in 25 games for the Warriors last season and he averaged 35.7 minutes, 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Ellis is a shoot first point guard which fits in with the Warriors running style. 25-year old C.J. Watson will back up Ellis again this season. He played in 77 games for the Warriors last season and he averaged 24.5 minutes, 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He should do a good job giving Ellis a rest this season. 24-year old Acie Law and 31-year old Speedy Claxton came over in the Jamal Crawford trade with the Hawks. Law played in 55 games for the Hawks last season and he averaged 10.2 minutes, 2.9 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Law was a first round pick just a couple of years ago so maybe he’ll find himself in Oakland. Claxton only played in 2 games for the Hawks last season due to injury and he averaged 7.5 minutes, 2.5 points and 1.5 assists per game.

The Golden State Warriors re-sign C.J. Watson

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 12 September 2009 at 9:45 pm

25-year old point guard C.J. Watson decided to re-sign with the Warriors as the offers just were not pouring in for him and his agent. Watson played in 77 games (18 starts) last season for the Warriors and he averaged 24.5 minutes, 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Watson has now played two years in the NBA and he has appeared in 109 games (18 starts) in which he has averaged 20.7 minutes, 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steal per game. It was a good move for both Watson and the Warriors that he was re-signed.

The Golden State Warriors are not having a positive vibe right now

I know Don Nelson doesn’t get along with Jamal Crawford but does that mean the Warriors have to give him away for essentially nothing (Speedy Claxton and Acie Earl)? The Warriors also lost Rob Kurz who signed with the Cavs and they traded Marco Belinelli to the Raptors. The Warriors hope that Devean George, Speedy Claxton and Acie Earl will give them good minutes off the bench but I wouldn’t hold my breath. The whole off-season so far has come down to this: If the coach doesn’t like you, you are gone no matter what the team gets back in return. That’s not a good way to operate a business. On the bright side for the Warriors they did draft a potential scoring machine in Stephen Curry in the first round of the NBA Draft.

The Golden State Warriors sign Mikki Moore

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 1 September 2009 at 8:26 am

The Warriors have signed 33-year old PF/C Mikki Moore to a 1-year deal. Moore played in 70 games (20 starts) for the Kings and Celtics last season averaging 17.2 minutes, 3.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He has now played in 534 games (161 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 18.2 minutes, 5.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. This was a good move for the Warriors as Moore should be able to give them some good minutes off the bench.
