The Golden State Warriors re-sign small forward Matt Barnes

Blogged under Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 6 August 2007 at 4:22 pm

The Warriors re-signed forward Matt Barnes on Sunday to a 1 year, $3 million dollar contract. Barnes had the best season of his NBA career last year. He played in 76 games (23 starts) and he averaged 23.9 minutes, 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He shot 43.8% from the floor, 36.6% from three point range and 73.2% from from the free throw line last season.Â

Look for Barnes to improve his career numbers now that he’s getting consistent minutes. Barnes has now played in 213 games (46 starts) and he averaged 18.2 minutes, 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He has made 44.5% of his shots from the floor, 34.1% from the three point line and 69.2% from the free throw line in his career.

i think this was a good move by the front office. Barnes will be motivated to play hard in his contract-year and give the Warriors depth, three-pointers and rebounds off the bench.

I agree with you Alex. Barnes deserved the nice raise and he’s an excellent player off of the bench. The Warriors are being pretty smart in keeping most of the team in tact for next season as the Warriors are a very exciting team to watch play because of their style.
