Warriors Baron Davis out indefinately

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Warriors News, Front Page, Injuries by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 21 February 2007 at 4:52 pm

The Warriors will be without starting point guard Baron Davis indefinately after having knee surgery. In 42 games this season, Davis is averaging 20.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 2.1 steals. Those numbers will be hard to replace but Monta Ellis and Sarunas Jasikevicius will try to replace him. They should be able to replace the point and rebounds, but the assists and steals will be hard for them to duplicate.

The Warriors were better than expected in the first half of the season

Don Nelson really has coached up the Warriors this season. They are 25-29 this season but are only 1 game behind the Timberwolves for the 8th slot in the playoffs. You know darn well that Don Nelson would love to get another shot at Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks. It will be harder now without Baron Davis who recently had knee surgery and will miss a lot of time. The Warriors need Monta Ellis and Sarunas Jasikevicius to step up at point guard and keep the offense clicking on all cylinders. With Jason Richardson nearing his return the Warriors should be able to make a strong run for the playoffs. Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson have been just what the doctor ordered for the Warriors and that trade might be the big move to get them into the playoffs.

The Warriors played well on offense as they shot 53% from the floor, but they didn’t play any defense as they allowed the Nuggets to hit 51% from the floor. The Warriors were also outrebounded 46-34 which figured in in their loss last night. Al Harrington led the way for the Warriors with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Kelenna Azubuike got a rare start and he made it count with 23 points and 2 blocked shots.
