The Warriors make a major trade with the Pacers

Blogged under Big Warriors News, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 17 January 2007 at 5:41 pm

The Warriors traded guys that didn’t fit well into their style of play and replaced them with guys that can get up and down the court. The Warriors traded Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Ike Diogu and Keith McLeod to the Pacers for Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Sarunas Jasikevicius and Josh Powell. Al Harrington was the biggest acquisition as he is an impact player. He has played in 36 games this season and has averaged 33.4 minutes, 15.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He also has shot 45.8% from the floor and has hit 45 of 118 (45.8%) from three-point range. For his career, Harrington has played in 532 games and has averaged 29.4 minutes, 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists.Â

Stephen Jackson needed to get out of Indiana and get a fresh, new start and Golden State will offer him that. Jackson should excel at running in the Warriors offense. Jackson has played in 37 games and has averaged 32.1 minutes, 14.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He has hit only 41.9% from the floor and 29.7% from 3-point range this season. For his career, Jackson has played in 429 games and has averaged 30.3 minutes, 13.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

The Warriors have been looking for a back-up point guard upgrade and they got one in Sarunas Jasikevicius. Jasikevicius is more of an uptempo player on offense and his style fits much better with the Warriors. He has played in 37 games and has averaged 17.9 minutes, 7.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists this season. He has only shot 41.2% from the floor but that should go up with the fast paced Warriors. He’s also hit 37.2% from 3-point range and 92.2% from the free-throw line so he still has the shooting touch. In his career, he has played in 112 games and has averaged 19.8 minutes, 7.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

The last player the Warriors acquired was little-used Josh Powell. Powell is a power forward that won’t make much ofan impact for the Warriors. He has only played in 7 games this season and has averaged 9.1 minutes, 1.7 points and 2.7 rebounds. For his career, Powell has played in 44 games and has averaged 11.2 minutes, 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds.

This was a good trade for the Warriors as long as Stephen Jackson behaves. The only player the Warriors didn’t want to give up was Ike Diogu who could become a very good NBA player soon.Â

Troy Murphy needs to step up

Blogged under Need to Step Up, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 16 January 2007 at 4:47 pm

Here is a guy that has averaged double figures in points 4 times in his 5 year career, he also has averaged 10+ rebounds three times but he doesn’t seem to fit Don Nelson’s style of offense thus his playing time has been cut. Murphy has played in 25 games and is averaging 8.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season and he needs to do better.

Warriors use huge 4th quarter to beat the Clippers 108-93 at Golden State

Blogged under Game Recaps, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 16 January 2007 at 4:43 pm

The Warriors dominated the Clippers in the 4th quarter 27-14 despite only dressing 8 players for the game. Instead of getting tired, the Warriors dug deep and saved their best for last. Monta Ellis had a great game as he led the Warriors with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Baron Davis had a horrible shooting game (4 of 18) but he still wound up with 19 points, 13 assists and 3 steals. Mike Dunleavy was awesome off the bench as he scored 18 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, stole the ball 3 times and he hit 3 3-pointers. Maybe he was motivated by playing his dad’s team.

The Warriors improved to 19-20 on the season with this nice home win. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270115009

Baron Davis igniting the Warriors offense

Blogged under Steppin Up, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 13 January 2007 at 11:27 pm

The Warriors have been scoring alot of points this season and that’s because of their point man, Baron Davis. Davis is averaging 37.6 minutes, 20.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game so far this season. He’s only shooting 43.2% from the floor but that’s just nitpicking, because he’s played great for the Warriors. They need to keep him healthy because he has a history of missing a few games per season.

Keith McLeod is the first back-up off the bench for the Warriors behind Davis. McLeod is averaging 14.6 minutes, 5.3 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game this season. He’s never been a good shooter though and that’s definately been the case this season as he’s only hit 39% from the floor.

Anthony Roberson is the #3 point guard. He’s not the pure point guard type as he likes to shoot. Roberson is only averaging 11.3 minutes per game but he still averages 5.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists.

The Warriors are in good shape as long as Baron Davis stays healthy.

Undrafted rookie steppin up

Blogged under Rookie Reports, Steppin Up, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 13 January 2007 at 11:17 pm

The Warriors decided to give undrafted rookie some playing time a couple of weeks ago and he’s ran with the opportunity. That rookie is Kelenna Azubuike. Azubuike has played in 6 games (2 starts) and he’s averaging 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game this season. He looks like he’ll fit right in with the Warriors running style on offense. He’s shooting 42.6% from the floor, but he’s already hit 9 of 17 3 pointers (52.9%).
